News from Geoff Bonus July 2010

Hi All NSW Sydney 38 Owners

First of all best of luck and fair sailing to Swish, Eleni, The Goat, J Steel and Zen for the Sydney Gold Coast yacht race starting tomorrow. The forecast and routing shows that this could be a small boat yacht race so do not be suprised if you see a 38 on the podium, as per the 2009 Hobart race. Staying ahead of the Archie 31 with the Tow Truck boys on board may be the big challenge.

 Some important dates...

AGM Septemeber 15 at RSYS. An agenda and resolutions for voting will be out early next month. Get there if you can and if you cannot please be sure and provide your proxy as we will be voting on sails, crew weight, mastheads etc.

 NSW STATE TITLES 2010

Will be hald at RSYS Fri 29/Sat 30/Sun 31 October. Separate emails will begin late August regardinmg this event but we would like to get an idea of entries asap to assist with planning for the regatta. Let's make this another fabulous event. There will be free berthing in the pond from RSYS, beers and a BBQ on the dock on after racing Friday and lots more. PLease get organised and put this in youir sailing calendar.

 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS 2011

Will be held at Geelong Race Week. Think 18-22 knots of SW and dead flat water every afternoon and you will get the picture. The Vics are arranging this event, the 38 Nationals are the main attraction and they have boats coming from SA and TAS to attend. Early indications are 13 entries PLUS any NSW boats attending.

IF YOU ARE A POSSIBLE/PROBABLE FOR THIS EVENT PLEASE LET ME KNOW BY RETURN EMAIL ASAP SO I CAN LET THE ORGANISERS PLAN FOR THE EVENT.

This season the focus will be on a smaller number of bigger and better attended One Design events. and a draft calendar will be available early August.

Please forward these dates to your key crew and start training now!

 Cheers all

Geoff Bonus

Australia & New Zealand’s leading sailing clothing brand Line 7, will continue its long standing support of the Sydney 38 class by sponsoring the 2009 Sydney 38 Australian Championship set to be run out of the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron from February 27th thru to March 1st.

'Line 7 has enjoyed a great relationship with the Sydney 38 class for many years and is proud to sponsor the 2009 Sydney 38 Australian Championship' Line 7 Marine Manager Pat Langley commented earlier this week.'

'The racing in the Sydney 38 class is always great and is truly one of the best one design keelboat classes in Australia.'

Pat will be sailing on mainsheet with Geoff Bonus and his team on 'Calibre' for this regatta and will be working hard to win back some of the great Line 7 prizes set to be won.

Line 7 has had a busy month coming off the recent Louis Vuitton Pacific Series which was just completed in Auckland NZ. Line 7 was the official clothing supplier for this major international regatta which was also won by Line 7’s very own Emirates Team New Zealand AC Team who saw off Alinghi 3-1 in the final.

Pat added 'This event was great from a product testing point of view, because the Emirates Team New Zealand (ENTZ) squad were able to really test the next generation of Line 7 Marine Clothing in the heat of the battle right in our backyard. This new range is due to be launched later this year and the guys gave us some excellent feedback which will help us tweak some of our new grand prix and mid layer products in particular'.

'Working with teams such as ETNZ, Olympic sailors as well as our Match Racing squads on the World Match Race Tour, have ensured that we are constantly evolving in our product offering and coming up with better solutions for keeping you dry and comfortable whilst looking great.'

The launch of next generation of Line 7 Marine clothing at the end of year will be an exciting milestone for the highly popular clothing range which is now distributed in Australia, New Zealand, UK, Ireland, Germany, and USA.
