Owners Meeting 17th July- A fantastic show of support for the Sydney 38 class was seen with the large attendance of the Owners Meeting. With a lot of controversial issues at hand, the meeting was orderly and well directed by our able chairman Geoff Bonus. For those who have not reviewed the agenda it is on the web site with a brief summary of the resolutions as follows:
1) Changes to Management of Class - Yes - Unanimous Vote 2) Changes to Rule Lodgement Time - Yes - Unanimous Vote 3) Change of Professionals to One Group 3 and One Group 2 - Yes - Unanimous Vote 4) Owner Driver Rule - Yes - Carried with amendment to wording to the rule 5) Mast Head Spinnakers in Offshore Races - No - Further investigation by the new IRC committee will be carried out to improve the classes IRC rating. 6) Increase of Association Dues - Yes – Unanimous Vote

Sydney 38 - VORC Winter Series Race 1. In a testing northerly wind ranging between 15 to 25 knots in what is primarily an IRC event, five Sydney 38’s faced the starter for the seven race event. 'Challenge' (Lou Abrahams) eventually was the first Sydney 38 across the line, followed by 'Sierra Chainsaw' (Andrew & Mel Mollison) and 'Scarlett Runner' (Rob Date)....

Oops… It’s happened again! And I thought sail makers had followed the ‘KISS’ principle in making a spinnaker, being that the 'Head' connects to the 'Halyard', but obviously not simple enough for some. This time it was Contentious Issues Bowman that got it wrong....

Gordon Ketelbey’s Zen attracted her fare share of interest fronting up to the start line with a minimalist view on sail area, sporting a number three headsail only. Unfortunately on the way to the start line, one of the crew looked up and commented, 'The top of the main is not trimmed properly…' and they were right. The main was torn from the luff to the leach below the second batten....

Sunday, 1st June 2008, race eight of the Audi Winter Series 2008, was one of the most challenging for the series so far and it was made even more challenging with Swish launching their new mast head spinnaker. 14 Sydney 38’s turned up for another winter Sunday on Sydney Harbour to work hard spotting breeze, shifting bodies and calculating how to be in the right place at the right time.
Racing started in approximately 8 knots or less of breeze as we saw Uplift catch the 'main' fleet start mark and an individual recall made for Ichi Bandit....

Legend Lou Abrahams successfully defended the 2008 Ronstan Sydney 38 Victorian One Design Championships hosted by Sandringham Yacht Club last weekend, the 19th and 20th of April. Due to very light winds of less than 12 knots, racing was delayed on both days and the race management did well to complete 5 of the scheduled 6 races....

What a day!! Clear blue skies, fresh but not too fresh, sea breezes. T-shirt sailing and just like living in a postcard. A postcard from Suva that is.
Sydney on the other hand, was crap. It rained, somewhere near torrential pretty much all day. The wind was anywhere between 5 and 25 knots and blew from most directions. Sometimes all at once....
